East Tennessee State University’s Department of Digital Media is seeking a candidate for a 12-month position at the level of Assistant Professor or Lecturer and Coordinator of DIGM Freshmen First Year Experience. The rank will be commensurate with academic and professional experience.
We are a well-supported department that offers a Bachelor of Science in Digital Media with concentrations in Animation, Game Design, Visual Effects, and Visualization, and an MFA in Digital Media. We have been teaching digital media since 1996, and our students have gone on to work everywhere from Pixar to Blizzard to NASA to the local tv station. The department has 300+ majors, five high-end computer labs, a substantial supply of production equipment, and support for travel and research.
ETSU is located in Johnson City, TN, situated in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, with four seasons, beautiful views, excellent climate for outdoor activities, reasonable cost of living, and very little traffic on your morning commute.
Duties
Coordinator of DIGM Freshman First-Year Experience and oversight of student and university courses and experiences.
- Work with the College Director of FYE
- Participate in department recruitment events
- Plan and oversee retention events at the department level
- Create and implement marketing strategies for the department
- Travel for recruitment to college fairs and events
Teaching a variety of production classes in digital media in one or more of our concentration areas:
- Visualization (concept art, character design, tech art, original visual concepts and design. principles, concentrating on the intersection of art and technology).
For Assistant Professor (Tenure Track):
- Generally, a 3/3/1 teaching load.
- Service through committee work, curriculum development, recruitment, creative work, student portfolio mentoring, etc.
- Developing an ongoing body of peer-reviewed research and/or creative work.
For Lecturer:
- Generally, a 4/4/1 teaching load.
- Service through committee work, curriculum development, recruitment, creative work, student portfolio mentoring, etc.
Required Qualifications
For Assistant Professor (Tenure Track):
- Masters level degree or terminal degree in digital media, digital arts, art, or a relevant digital media discipline completed by August 1, 2026 (minimum of 18 graduate hours at time of hire).
- Good written and oral English skills.
For Lecturer:
- Well-qualified professionals with extensive experience in digital media will be considered with a position-relevant undergraduate or master's degree (in digital media, digital arts, computer science, art, or a relevant digital media discipline).
- Be distinguished practitioners who have had a major impact on fields important to the Department's teaching and/or external engagement, and who are committed to enhancing ETSU's programs and reputation.
- Have significant professional experience, at least 8-10 years, with work on projects of national reputation.
- Good written and oral English skills.
- Able to begin work August 2025.

Salary Range: 75,000 to 90,000
