The University of Applied Arts Vienna is looking for an assistant professor to join its faculty in Vienna, Austria.
The University of Applied Arts Vienna is looking for a university assistant (m/f/d, 40 hours a week, limited to 30.08.2026 – with the possibility of an extension of the contract until 30.08.2029) starting on 3 March 2025 in the field of Architectural Design 2 – Studio Space Popular (led by Univ.-Prof. Fredrik Hellberg and Univ.-Prof. Lara Lesmes)
Studio Space Popular is focussed on Transmedia Architecture through design and theory. Transmedia Architecture defines the experience of space through multiple means: physical and virtual. We develop architecture that considers physical bodies and virtual beings equally. Working at the intersection of the built and the virtual environments, we imagine alternatives towards responsibility and solidarity in the ways we design, build and inhabit our buildings, cities, towns and villages, enabled by media.
We are looking for a person to join our team in the capacity of an assistant, involving regular teaching in a design studio environment and research contributions to the studio. While our focus involves the use of technology, technical skills are not a requirement for this position. We are looking for candidates with experience and interest in architecture and media theory, and new forms of living derived from the internet and digital cultures. Depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, there may also be opportunities to co-supervise PhD students.
Employment requirements:
- degree in architecture
- didactic skills in conveying fundamentals of architectural design
- pedagogic competence and experience in the fields of academic teaching
- professional experience in academia and professional practice
- excellent understanding of contemporary architectural discourse, urban strategies, and media critique, with focus on the climate emergency and the social, political, demographic and technological challenges of the 21st century
- advanced practical skills in detailing of design solutions for architecture
- commitment in administrative and organisational matters
- excellent English language skills (good German language skills)
The monthly minimum wage for the position is currently €3,578,80 gross (14 times a year, based on 40 hours per week) and can be increased accordingly by taking into account job-specific previous experience in accordance with the collective agreement for universities (B1, salary scheme for academic/artistic university staff).
Qualified applicants should submit their written application with a letter of intent and CV by 12 December 2024 via our online application platform. Applications submitted otherwise will unfortunately not be considered.
The University of Applied Arts pursues an anti-discriminatory recruitment policy and, as an employer, stands for equal opportunities and diversity.
