Job Summary/Description/Physical Demands
The NMHU Department of Media Arts & Technology invites applications for a full-time, term (9 months) Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor of Media Arts beginning August 10, 2026. We seek instructors with experience in graphic design or video/audio production, who work at the intersection of creative production, cultural awareness, and technology. This position includes the possibility for well-matched candidates to transition to a tenure‐track faculty role following two semesters of demonstrated performance.
Candidates whose teaching focuses on digital media practices, installation, and their area of specialization are invited to apply. A successful candidate situates their practice within theoretical and cultural approaches to teaching and research. Applicants should be well versed in media history and theory, and able to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in a diverse interdisciplinary program that emphasizes industry standard and emerging technologies used in digital storytelling along with industry-standard production applications. Media Arts faculty work collaboratively across areas of concentration and with community partners.

The position requires a 24-credit hour per year teaching load. The candidate will participate in curriculum development, advisement, administration of both graduate and undergraduate curriculum, and a willingness to engage with students beyond class time. Some committee and departmental service is expected.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must hold an MA, or MFA or MDes in Graphic Design (Visual Communications), Film/Video or a related field, and have a minimum of 2 years of teaching and/or professional experience. Applicants should feel comfortable with all levels of industry-standard digital production in their specialties, from beginner to advanced.
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants with terminal degrees are preferred. A terminal degree is required for any applicant advancing to the tenure track position.
Additional areas of focus, such as multi-media, interactive installation, projection mapping and collaborative exhibition practices are ideal.
Some professional experience is preferred.
