Job Description
SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Chair, Department of Art and Design, the 2D Studios Coordinator oversees daily operations, equipment maintenance, safety compliance, and student staffing for the Analog Photography Studio, Painting Studio, and Printmaking Studio.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Conduct regularly scheduled open studio hours in the assigned studios
- Establish and enforce best studio practices to ensure a safe, professional working environment
- Maintain a clean and organized space in the assigned studios. Ensure proper disposal of trash and recyclables; prevent accumulation of flammable materials
- Oversee tool maintenance across all assigned studios, and coordinate needed tool repairs or improvements in collaboration with the Department Administration
- Manage storage of student projects, course materials, the studios’ supply inventories
- Submit facilities maintenance service requests through Nuvolo or directly to University Facilities
- Instruct one course per semester in the areas of photography, printmaking or painting, given one’s experience and curricular need
- Work closely with faculty and staff to support curricular needs within the assigned studios
- Manage the hiring and staffing of nude models for the Department’s drawing and painting classes
- Help to develop and maintain studio safety manuals and related documentation for use by classes in the assigned studios
- Conduct safety orientations and workshops for courses using assigned studios.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student assistants to support open studio hours and departmental projects in the assigned studios
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all student users in the assigned studios
- In conjunction with Department Administration, submit purchase requisitions within budget to maintain inventory and course supplies
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Studio Art, Painting, Printmaking, Photography or related field
- Minimum of three years of experience overseeing photography and/or printmaking and/or painting studios in an academic or another comparable professional setting, as a Shop/Studio Assistant or a Shop/Studio Manager
- Experience and proficiency with associated equipment/machinery and chemicals/safety in the assigned studios
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Ability to work in person 5 days a week, 10 months a year (Summer term off)
- Ability to work occasional evenings and possibly one weekend day
- Experience, ability, and commitment to creating a working environment that is supportive, open, and respectful
PREFERRED
- Master’s degree from accredited college or university in Studio Art, Painting, Printmaking, Photography or related field
- Experience as a Photography or Printmaking Shop Manager
- OSHA 10 and/or First Aid Training certifications
- Experience in Higher Education Administration or other administrative field

Salary Range
$63,833.23-$70,221.74 Annual
