Department Information
The Department of Theatre and Dance has approximately 65 majors, 30 Theatre minors, and 20 Dance minors with 6 full-time faculty and 4 full-time staff. The department is a past winner of the university Department Program of Excellence Award and Inclusive Excellence Award. Through the assistance of several NEA grants, the department has hosted a wide variety of guest artists in theatre and dance. We strive to create theatre that is relevant, accessible, socially conscious, and engages our campus community.
Job Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences seeks a Limited Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in Dance. This non-tenure track faculty position, based in the Department of Theatre and Dance, is a temporary one-year appointment for the 10-month academic year.
This position has a teaching load of 5/5 and includes choreography and mentorship of student choreographers for four dance productions each year (2 per semester) and support for the department's spring musical.
The Limited-Term Lecturer in Dance will be an integral part of the Department of Theatre and Dance by teaching classes in the Dance Minor Program as well as the Community Dance Program. The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a candidate who works collaboratively, collegially, and creatively. As a limited-term position, the primary focus for this position is teaching.
Responsibilities
Faculty - Teaching/Instructing
Instruct courses and lead rehearsals for the GCSU Dance Minor and Community Dance Program, including various levels of tap, ballet, contemporary, and jazz for ages 3 and up
Serve as Assistant Director for all dance events, including oversight of operational and organizational processes
Serve as Production Manager for The Nutcracker, including scheduling, space reservations, and collaboration with technical partners regarding lighting, scenery, props, costumes, and sound
Assist in the organization and implementation of donor programming, including performances of The Nutcracker for local schools
Develop creative works for departmental events
Mentor student scholarship
Perform other teaching responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
Faculty - Professional Development
Faculty are expected to conduct research and engage in ongoing professional development. Activities may include:
- Scholarly publications, including peer-reviewed work, editing, and citations
- Presentations at professional meetings and conferences
- Current work in circulation or in progress
- Grant applications and awards received
- Membership and active participation in professional organizations
- Other professional service or development activities
Ability to develop and demonstrate knowledge of current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
Faculty - Service to Institution
- Mentor student attendance at the American College Dance Association (ACDA) Festival
- Serve as co-advisor to Chi Tau Epsilon dance honor society
- Support student recruitment efforts
- Direct and advise departmental programs
- Participate in special programs or projects
- Perform other institutional service as assigned
Ability to work collegially with others in service to the University; supports the advancement of the department, college, and University mission.
Faculty - Public Service
Public service is an expected component of faculty responsibilities and may include:
- Consulting work within the discipline
- Continuing education instruction or program development for the department, school, college, or university
- Membership and participation in community organizations
- Other significant service to the broader community
Other Duties and Responsibilities
All Georgia College & State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
A master's degree in Dance or closely related field at the time of appointment.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))

Proposed Salary
Maximum salary is $55,000.00.
