Overview
The Providence College Department of Art and Art History seeks a full-time, one-year visiting assistant professor in Modern/Contemporary Art History (1800-present) to begin August 1, 2026. The successful candidate will participate in the team-taught western survey course and teach courses in Modern and Contemporary art history during the academic year 2026-2027.
The position includes competitive salary and benefits, as well as research support including travel funds, library resources, and grant proposal assistance. Cultural resources in the city of Providence and the surrounding region are extensive. The salary range for this position is $68,000-$72,000.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will participate in the team-taught western survey course and teach courses in Modern and Contemporary art history during the academic year 2026-2027.
Education and Experience
Preference will be given to applicants who possess a Ph.D. from an accredited institution (or are very near completion) and demonstrate a strong commitment to innovative and collaborative teaching, use of technology, and art historical scholarship.
