Job Description:
The Department of Visual Art & Design (DOVAD) at Weber State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, instructor position to begin July 1, 2027. We seek a candidate who will contribute in meaningful ways to the department, college, and university's continuing commitment to student success and belonging. The successful candidate will primarily teach in the department's lower-division General Education and Foundations curricula (Foundations courses are designed to teach art majors basic visual literacy and making skills), and will serve as the department's Concurrent Enrollment Liaison. The person in this position will also participate in departmental service opportunities and faculty governance. The breakdown of duties is approximately 60% time teaching, 25% overseeing Concurrent Enrollment and 15% scholarship and/or service.

NOTE: This is a one-year Instructor appointment renewable by separate contract at the sole discretion of the University.
Job Duties:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Teaching a load of 8 to 11 credit hours (three courses), primarily in Creative Arts General Education and Foundations courses each Fall and Spring semester. The Creative Arts General Education curriculum in DOVAD includes two, three-credit load hour non-majors courses and two four-credit load hour studio courses. Other Foundations and studio courses are four credit hours of teaching load. Teaching assignments in the studio courses will be based on department needs and the candidate's area of interest.
- Oversight of department Concurrent Enrollment (CE) high school instructors. This includes annual evaluation of all CE instructors (including classroom observations), mentorship of CE faculty, and oversight of adherence to WSU's standards and essential learning outcomes for Creative Arts General Education.
- Participate in faculty self-governance through service.

- MFA in Visual Art, Design, Visual Studies, or a related field of study.
- Experience in teaching at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Capacity to respond in pedagogically productive ways to the learning needs of all students is preferred.

Program Information
Weber State University is a dual mission institution, providing associate, baccalaureate, and master's degree programs in liberal arts, sciences, and technical and professional fields. DOVAD's academic offerings include BFA and BA degrees in art, and BFA degrees in art education and graphic design, as well as minors in each of these areas and a minor in art history.
DOVAD is housed in the Ethel Wattis Kimball Visual Arts Center, one of the most comprehensive studio arts facilities in the Intermountain West. The department is also home to the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery, which produces and mounts exhibitions of national and international scope, in addition to showing student works and works by regional artists.
Faculty are eligible for research and professional development grants at the college and university level. There is also the opportunity to collaborate with the Matthew S. Browning Design Lab.
Weber State University is located in Ogden, Utah, home to The Monarch and Nine Rails Creative District. The City of Ogden is 35 miles north of Salt Lake City. Located in Northern Utah, it was one of the sites of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and is close to many world-class outdoor recreational opportunities.

Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
