Dezeen is looking for an experienced and strategic finance director to join its team in London for one day per week.
Dezeen is the world’s most influential architecture and design magazine, with a readership of three million monthly users and more than eight million social media followers.
We are looking for a fractional finance director to join us from October onwards, working one day per week to provide financial leadership, support our growth and ensure our financial function scales to meet the needs of our business.
Key responsibilities include:
- supporting the co-CEOs in formulating and executing finance strategies and plans to grow the business
- managing and mentoring our existing finance team of two (financial controller and bookkeeper)
- overseeing end-of-month reconciliations and delivering financial reporting to Group (JP/Politiken Media Group)
- preparing annual budgets and creating three-year financial forecasts and scenario business plans for US and China
- managing and advising on our existing inter-company and financial structures, including ongoing liaising with tax advisors in the US
- implementing controls and internal procedures to create financial rigour and ensure secure, robust operations around reporting, forecasting, target setting and cash management.
- managing P&L and identifying opportunities to increase profit and optimise cash flow
- conducting profitability analysis across our diverse revenue streams, including advertising, classified services and awards programme
- attending quarterly board meetings and presenting finance slides to the board of directors
The successful candidate will be an experienced finance leader, ideally with a strong background in media, digital publishing or a fast-growing commercial business. As Dezeen is launching a new premium subscription service soon, candidates who bring proven experience managing the financial operations of media subscription models will be at a distinct advantage.
You will have a proven track record of formulating international financial strategies and business plans, alongside hands-on experience managing complex inter-company structures across global markets like the US and China.
We are looking for a highly strategic, analytical and collaborative professional. You should possess excellent leadership skills, with a genuine desire to empower and mentor your team, while confidently advising senior management and board members on business-critical financial decisions.
The fractional finance director will report to the co-CEOs.
