Wilkes University invites applicants for a full-time Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Integrative Media, Art + Design to commence August 2025. The department offers both BA and BFA degrees. These curricula blend a solid visual design and technology core curriculum with the choice of one or more minors in related fields: art, communication, computer science, English, business, theatre, and game and emergent technology.
The successful candidate will be a studio art generalist who demonstrates broad training in modern studio art/illustration techniques with the ability to teach beginning courses, advanced topics, and specialized seminar courses with an awareness of how foundational artistic skills influence commercial creative production. Areas should include: illustration, painting, printmaking, and drawing. Experience in 3D and 2D animation is a plus. We also seek the ability to integrate digital tools and software, for example: the Adobe Creative Suite, 2D/3D software, and emerging technologies.
Applicants must possess a terminal degree (MFA or equivalent), in Studio Art or related field. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and be capable of providing a positive learning environment that supports the needs of diverse students. Creative scholarship and/or a strong record of industry experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in studio art at the undergraduate level.
The department seeks a team player with the flexibility to teach multiple topic areas in a small, academically diverse, close-knit environment. The department has a strong mentoring philosophy and is open to cross-departmental collaboration and community and service-learning opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to support departmental activities including: advising, recruiting, planning, attending meetings and events, and curriculum development. The normal teaching load is 21 credit hours per academic year. Scholarship, service, and mentorship of students are also expected. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
