Job Description
The School of Architecture and Design (SoAD) at Wentworth Institute of Technology invites applications for a full-time position in Industrial Design at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in Fall 2025.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach courses that align with a forward-thinking approach to design education, integrating advanced technology, user-centered approaches, and innovative tools into the design process. Teaching responsibilities may include coursework in UX/UI design, AR/VR applications, parametric and computational design, digital fabrication and rapid prototyping, interaction design, digital visualization and animation, AI-driven design methodologies, as well as design research, and advanced design studios. Candidates must be adept at demonstrating technical expertise and emerging design tools in a studio-based, hands-on learning environment.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with colleagues to develop and deliver integrated, interdisciplinary coursework.
- Engaging in a robust research and scholarship agenda.
- Advising and mentoring students.
- Participating in service obligations to the school, university, and community.
The new faculty member will also play an essential role in launching the undergraduate program in digital design, graduate program in design, and graduate certificate programs, thereby contributing to the future of design education at Wentworth.

Minimum Requirements:
- A master’s degree in Industrial Design, Design, or a related design field (e.g., Master of Design, Master of Fine Arts, Master of Architecture, DDes, or PhD).
- Established record of academic and professional accomplishments
- Proven success in working collaboratively to advance knowledge and design
- Demonstrated success in establishing a clear scholarship/creative agenda.
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in teaching industrial design, digital design, or related design disciplines in an academic setting
- Professional experience in industrial design, digital design, or related design discipline
- Demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching and mentorship.
- Proficiency in digital design tools, including CAD (Rhino, SolidWorks).
- Knowledge of contemporary design practices, including UX/UI, AR/VR, computational design, and digital fabrication.
- Possess flexibility in teaching to address diverse student needs and interests.
- A strong work ethic and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

About the Industrial Design Program:
The Industrial Design program at Wentworth is a NASAD-accredited program located in Boston’s vibrant design hub. With approximately 130 students, the program emphasizes the connection between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technologies, preparing students to excel in the rapidly evolving field of design.
The curriculum blends foundational skills like drawing, model-making, and material manipulation (e.g., paper, wood, metal, and plastic) with emerging technologies such as 3D printing, AR/VR, AI, and digital prototyping.
Students complete two mandatory co-ops, bridging the gap between academia and industry, reinforcing coursework, and gaining valuable professional experience.
