Black and Milk is seeking a senior/mid-weight interior designer to join its team in London.
About us
Welcome to the art of cosy luxury.
Founded in London, Black and Milk studio is built on the belief that true luxury is not about excess but about balance. Our signature cosy luxury stylistics seek perfect equilibrium between heritage and modernity, beauty and function, bold statements and quiet elegance – much like the interplay of Black and Milk.
Our studio is led by husband-and-wife team Toly and Olga, who established the practice in 2013 with a specialisation in bespoke luxury homes. We are a boutique studio, meaning our team is close-knit, collaborative, and friendly, allowing us to take a highly personalised approach to each project.
About the role
We are looking for a highly capable senior/mid-weight interior designer to take ownership of key project stages.
You will manage your own workflow, lead client communications, and solve problems independently. This role is ideal for a designer who is confident in their technical and creative abilities and is ready to run with a brief.
You’ll thrive in our collaborative environment, where innovation is encouraged and fresh ideas are always welcome. If you have a strong technical background, a creative mind, and a love for luxury design, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll do:
- project delivery: take ownership of your assigned projects or workstreams, ensuring they are delivered on time and to the highest standard
- space planning: deliver confident space planning solutions that adhere to building regulations and project constraints
- technical design: independently produce accurate technical drawings in AutoCAD, including detailed joinery, layouts, and construction packages
- FF&E Specification: source and specify furniture, fixtures, and equipment independently. You will be responsible for creating schedules that align with the design vision
- client relations: act as a trusted point of contact for clients, presenting ideas clearly and managing expectations professionally
- on-site supervision: oversee the implementation of designs on-site, liaising with contractors and solving practical construction issues as they arise
What you’ll bring:
- experience: we require a minimum of 3 years’ specialised experience in luxury residential design. If your background is in a different sector, we would require a higher level of experience (e.g., 5+ years) to ensure you can match the technical complexity and pace of our luxury projects
- software proficiency: you have full proficiency in AutoCAD and the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop)
- budgeting & procurement skills: you are commercially minded and numerate. You can work with a spread sheet and a calculator, ensuring that the beautiful things you specify actually fit into the financial reality of the project
- supplier & product knowledge: you know the market. Whether we need to specify sanitaryware, bespoke joinery finishes, or lighting, you know exactly which suppliers to go to and where to source the best options
- construction knowledge: you have tangible experience seeing projects through to build. You understand how things are constructed and feel comfortable visiting a site to check progress and answer contractor questions
- communication: you have outstanding communication skills. You are articulate in person and precise in writing, capable of managing client relationships with confidence
Perks of the job:
- career growth: we’re committed to your development with plenty of opportunities for training and progression
- work-life balance: WFH on Fridays with an early finish; increasing holiday entitlement the longer you’re with us
- community and fun: our social calendar is packed with events, and we offer a cycle-to-work scheme to keep you healthy and happy
- pension plan: we contribute to your pension to help secure your future
Our studio is nestled in the beautiful neighbourhood of Hampstead NW3, just a short walk from the tube station. It’s a vibrant and inspiring place to work, and we can’t wait to welcome you.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, with a one-hour lunch break.
