The role
Joseph Walsh Studio is currently seeking a General Workshop Assistant to join its team in County Cork, Ireland. This is a hands-on role within a busy workshop, suited for someone who thrives on precision, logistics and making things run smoothly. Supporting the Workshop Manager team, the General Workshop Assistant will work on the care, movement and installation of completed pieces, both in the Studio and on the road. The role spans workshop maintenance, packing and crating, storage and waste management, as well as the transportation and installation of artworks, often working alongside external teams during deliveries and exhibition installs. This role is for someone who is highly organised, practical and professional who can respond confidently within a fast-moving environment.
Duties and responsibilities:
- workshop repairs and tool and machine maintenance
- packing and crating of artworks in preparation for shipping
- assistance in the handling, transportation and installation of artworks
- management of accurate documentation, including condition reports and packing lists
- storage management of materials and works
- waste and recycling management
- assisting the workshop team on other tasks as deemed necessary
- ensuring compliance at all times with Health and Safety guidelines
- adhering and contributing to the Studio’s Best Practice procedures and practices
The ideal candidate will:
- have joinery skills (desirable)
- have comparable experience (desirable)
- have a strong work ethic
- have strong logistics skills, be proactive and creative and possess strong problem solving skills
- have the ability to work on own initiative and achieve deadlines
- be precise, have strong attention to detail and desire to work at the highest standard
- have the ability to work successfully as part of a team
- be flexible and available to travel, when required, for deliveries/ exhibition installations/break downs
- have a forklift licence
- have a full clean driving licence (essential)
