Lund University is seeking a senior lecturer in architectural design with focus on artistic research in architecture to join its faculty in Lund, Sweden.
Subject description
Architectural design focuses on the acts of creating architectural form, where architecture is understood as a spatial and material practice that generates social, cultural, and ideological meanings. The subject is concerned, among other things, with how architecture can be used as a tool to challenge norms and conventions within building practices, or how speculative design and material experimentation can deepen architectural thinking and reveal alternative future realities. Central to the field is a critical engagement with, and active development of architecture as a form-generating academic discipline and architecture as a professional practice.
Artistic research in architecture emphasizes design-driven processes and investigative methods, including the development of new interfaces between academic research and professional architectural practice. Such research may, for example, follow a so-called “Research by Design” methodology, in which new knowledge is generated through design experiments, through the development of new methods, tools, and techniques, and through critical reflection on design methodologies.
