DJD Architects is hiring a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in Worcester, UK.
DJD Architects is a RIBA Chartered Practice based in Worcester, known for its carefully considered, buildable, people centric designs. With over 35 years of experience, we deliver projects across numerous sectors, with a specialism in social housing, including retrofit alongside new build and conversion. We deliver a range of housing projects from multi-home developments to unique private dwellings. Our other work involves, commercial, offices, veterinary, industrial and conservation projects.
We are seeking a talented Part 2 architectural assistant to join our friendly studio, contributing to projects from early concept through to technical delivery and completion. This role offers the opportunity to develop as a well-rounded architect by working on all RIBA work stages (1–6) and gaining hands-on experience in both design and construction, with strong mentorship on the path to your Part 3 qualification.
About the role
As a Part 2 architectural assistant at DJD Architects, you will collaborate with project architects to develop and deliver designs for projects across all RIBA stages. You will prepare concept designs and feasibility studies, produce planning application drawings, and then carry projects through detailed technical design (using BIM/Archicad) and on-site construction phases.
Throughout, you’ll ensure our solutions are functional, buildable and comply with UK Building Regulations and best practices, maintaining design quality into delivery. You’ll also liaise directly with clients, consultants, contractors and authorities, communicating clearly through drawing, writing, and meetings. The role includes assisting with contract administration and site inspections during construction, giving you valuable on-site experience. We encourage initiative and inquisitiveness. You will be supported with training and active mentorship.
This is a full-time position with a start date to coincide with end of University course dates.

About you – requirements
We are looking for an ambitious Part 2 architectural assistant who can bring both creative design talent and sound technical understanding to our team. The ideal candidate should have:
Qualifications: RIBA Part 2 qualification (with Part 1 and 2 from a RIBA-validated course). You should be preparing for Part 3 and qualification as an architect. (We welcome applications from recent Part 2 graduates as well as those with some industry experience.)
Design skills: excellent design and visualisation ability, demonstrated through a strong portfolio of academic and/or professional work. You should have outstanding drawing, 3D modelling and presentation skills, with a keen eye for quality and detail.
Technical knowledge: a good understanding of construction principles, UK Building Regulations, and an interest in how designs are built and detailed. You enjoy problem-solving in technical design and won’t propose solutions you can’t imagine being constructed in the real world.
Digital tools: proficiency in relevant software. Experience with BIM and 3D CAD is required; familiarity with ArchiCAD is an advantage (our studio is fully Archicad-based for BIM). Skills in rendering (e.g. Twinmotion) and Adobe Creative Suite are beneficial.
Teamwork and communication: excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed for collaborating within the team and dealing with clients, consultants and contractors. You are a positive, proactive team player who can take direction, give input, and communicate ideas clearly. You will be expected to confidently present your ideas and design decisions to colleagues, clients and the wider project team.
Organisation and initiative: strong time management and organisational skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines reliably. A proactive, curious attitude is essential, continually seeking to learn and showing enthusiasm for contributing ideas that improve our design workflows and practice.
Eligibility: you must be eligible to work in the UK, without a time, or other restriction (unfortunately we cannot sponsor visas), and have fluent written and spoken English.
What we offer
At DJD Architects, we provide a supportive environment where you can grow your career and work on meaningful projects without sacrificing work-life balance. Joining us, you will benefit from:
Wide-ranging project experience: in our studio, Part 2 assistants are involved in projects from concept through to completion, including technical design and construction. You’ll gain comprehensive experience across all RIBA stages, with opportunities to lead smaller projects or packages under the guidance of senior architects. This breadth of exposure, including regular client contact and on-site involvement will equip you with the practical skills required to progress toward Part 3 qualification.
Part 3 support and mentoring: we have a strong track record of helping team members become qualified architects. You will be paired with a mentor director who will support your Part 3 journey with formal quarterly reviews of your experience and progress. We provide 10 days of paid study leave and cover the course fees for your Part 3 at an approved school. Regular CPD seminars, technical workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions are built into our culture, ensuring you continue to learn and develop.
Collaborative culture: you’ll be part of a small, friendly team where everyone is approachable and ideas are encouraged. We foster a creative, collaborative atmosphere where directors are actively involved across all projects. Our established culture of continual improvement includes fortnightly team knowledge exchanges, to share insights with colleagues across projects and subjects. You will be expected to take on an area of practice management, working towards an “area lead” role (such as sustainability, BIM, design quality, etc.), influencing how we continue to develop as a studio, adopt new innovations and best practice. Our open-plan studio environment encourages communication and mentorship at all levels.
Work-life balance: we believe in working smartly and respectfully. Our full-time work week is 37.5 hours (9 am to 5:30 pm with an hour lunch) and we do not have a long-hours culture. Overtime is rare, as we prioritise our team’s well-being and efficiency. The role is primarily studio based to foster and support a collaborative culture, learning and professional development. We offer flexibility with a hybrid working policy (a minimum of three days in the studio each week after probation). Team members are each provided with a MacBook, iPad and second screen for remote working. Our office is located in the heart of Worcester, five-minutes walk from the train station.
Competitive benefits: we offer a competitive salary (from £30,000 per annum, depending on experience) that is benchmarked against RIBA salary standards, with annual reviews and performance-based increases. You’ll receive 30 days holiday per year (including bank holidays), a pension with 4% employer contribution, and we will cover professional membership fees (RIBA, ARB, etc.) for architectural staff. Other benefits include a relaxed, inclusive office culture, regular team social events, and the satisfaction of working on projects that positively impact the community.
