Sequoias Community College District is seeking a qualified and equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Architecture Department beginning August 2026. This position is located on the Tulare Campus.
The Architecture program plays a critical role in meeting regional workforce demand in drafting, construction, energy, and infrastructure sectors by preparing students for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, and industry-recognized certifications.
Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
The Architecture instructor provides high-quality instruction in architecture to support student transfer, workforce preparation, and career advancement. The instructor delivers curriculum aligned with industry standards, and regional labor market data, while advancing innovation and student success. This faculty position supports the college's Career Technical Education mission through applied learning, industry engagement, and continuous improvement driven through Perkins V and Strong Workforce initiatives.
Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
*College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity, as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Architecture courses.
Job Duties of the Architecture Instructor include:
Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations.
Provide instruction in lecture, lab and/or evening formats as assigned.
Ensure lab safety compliance, including OSHA-aligned practices and equipment maintenance.
Integrate industry codes and evolving technologies into curriculum.
Develop curriculum design; review and update courses every two years.
Build and track student learning objectives.
Maintain currency of the program: industry standards, technology, tools, labor market information, certifications, curriculum, and program review.
Develop Program Review at a minimum of every two years.
Create and/or enhance industry advisory committees.
Connect students to job and internship opportunities.
Coordinate use of instructional aides/student workers.
Maintain required number of office hours per course to meet student needs.
Participate in the governance of the college via committee assignments.
Coordinate with staff and faculty in other divisions on events and complex facilities.
Participate fully in departmental/division responsibilities.
Lead program enrollment, growth and sustainability through:
Serving as an advisor to student organizations.
Engaging with high school programs in relevant pathways.
Communicate effectively with students and staff.
Support dual enrollment and articulated high school pathways, where applicable.
Fulfill other duties and responsibilities of instructors as required.
Active engagement with campus culture.
Willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, justice, and appreciation for diversity throughout the college.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must meet the following criteria.
Bachelor's degree in Architecture or higher
AND
Two years of related, current work experience in the field of Architecture
AND
Professional licensure as an Architect, or ability to attain licensure
JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY
The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 §53022.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The Industry and Technology Department is looking for evidence of the following:
State-licensed professional architect
Teaching experience in California Community Colleges or CTE programs
Experience with CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp)
Knowledge of California Building Code, sustainability standards, and accessibility requirements
Experience integrating internships, project-based learning, and real-world applications
Familiarity with Perkins V, Strong Workforce, and program review process
Maintain current knowledge of architectural practice, codes, and technologies
Experience aligning curriculum with industry standards for certificate completion, degree completion, and transfer pathways.
Knowledge making data-informed assessments of student learning outcomes and course success
Ability to improve student retention, completion, and employment outcomes
Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to integrate emerging technologies, as well as sustainability principles into the curriculum.
Evidence of the ability to involve students in practical applications of instruction as it is related to the industry.
Experience in and/or commitment to working with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomics, academic and disability backgrounds.
Demonstrated knowledge of sound pedagogy and adult teaching techniques that contribute to student learning and engagement.
Experience using data to improve student outcomes (e.g., completion, licensure, placement).
Ability to design and implement best practices for increased success and completion through proven best practices such as embedded remediation, integration of career preparatory activities and integration of industry certifications into the classes and Program.
Experience working with industry through advisories, taskforces, or committees. Exhibit the ability to connect the program and students with job and internship opportunities.
Ability to work in collegial relationships with students and faculty.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Strong computer skills.
Membership in relevant professional organizations.
