With free admission, the ICA is a major resource for VCU, Richmond, and beyond.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The ICA at VCU is seeking an intern in graphic design to support the Communications team. The Design Intern will work closely with the ICA’s Director of Communications and Public Engagement, Creative Designer, and Digital Strategist, to create digital and print design assets for the ICA's website, social media channels, paid advertising, exhibitions and programs, membership, and general marketing. The intern will also assist in the development of graphic resource tools and the physical production of signage to be used by all ICA departments.
The responsibilities of the position are meant to provide an experience that is of mutual benefit to the ICA and the intern. The intern will gain experience in the following areas:
- Creation and maintenance of digital design assets for the website and social media
- Planning, production and design of print materials
- Design, production and installation of exhibition graphics
- Support and implementation of ICA brand and supporting assets, including professional experience designing in-market work that will help them build a portfolio of diverse creative.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis on InDesign
- Proficient in Google Suite
- Experience in physical production - mock-ups, mounting, in-house printing
- Ability to manage multiple projects, collaborate across teams as well as work independently
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
This ICA internship is open to graduate students and recent graduates. The internship is available for hourly payment between $15-$20 an hour, depending on experience. The design intern will be expected to work approximately 15 hours per week, primarily onsite at the ICA with some remote work flexibility. This is a six-week internship with the possibility of an extension.
Salary Range: $15-$20/hour
