Overview
The McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position. This appointment is for an initial two-year term and the possibility of multi-year renewal. The successful candidate will teach in the undergraduate construction curriculum and engage in service activities that support the school and its students.
We seek a person who will contribute to our mission of preparing industry-ready construction professionals through high-quality, practice-focused instruction. Candidates should be prepared to teach in several key curricular areas, including Construction Materials and Methods, Construction Safety, Quality Control, and Construction Scheduling. Additional teaching opportunities may include Plan Reading, Mechanical and Electrical Systems, Project Management, Field Supervision, Contracting Business and Contracts, Construction Finance, and Construction Survey/Layout. We welcome applicants who bring both practical construction experience and strong teaching capability, and who are committed to applied learning, real-world case studies, and industry-aligned best practices.

Responsibilities
This position requires on-campus presence during the academic year to:
1. Deliver instruction consistent with the University’s mission;
2. Collaborate with faculty, students, and interdisciplinary partners; and
3. Engage with construction industry organizations and professionals.
This is a nine-month academic appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. Additional opportunities include industry engagement, coaching competition teams, attending conferences, and participating in study-abroad programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to developing the next generation of construction leaders.
Review of applications will begin March 20, 2026, and will continue until a suitable candidate is selected and recommended for appointment. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026, or January 1, 2027, depending on the applicant’s availability.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for the Lecturer include all of the following:
• Master’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years experience in the U.S. construction industry at the time employment begins.
OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years experience in the U.S. construction industry at the time employment begins. At least 5 years of this experience shall be in the U.S. construction industry at the time employment begins.
Desired Qualifications:
Evidence of progressively responsible industry experience over the applicant’s career, demonstrated effective communication skills, significant U.S. construction experience, professional registration or contractor’s license; certification and/or credentials, capability of leveraging basic information technology and experience teaching at the university level.
