The studio was founded in 2024 by Rachael Davidson and Pete Jennings. With 40 years combined experience, Smiths creates useful, versatile and repairable buildings that showcase the process of making. Our output is measured, edited and distinctively simple. We specialise in complex and compromised sites and the bringing together of divergent uses. We help clients make meaningful places that communicate culture and accommodate change.
Smiths brings together a range of voices including Women in Architecture, Build the Way Traineeship and London School of Architecture to create places with depth of meaning and function. We donate 1% of turnover to environmental causes.
About the position
We are looking for an experienced Part 2 or newly qualified architect with a creative background and exceptional design skills who wants to be part of a growing studio to play a key role in delivering some of our first projects.
This is an opportunity that would suit an ambitious and inquisitive person who is keen to develop their career and make a meaningful impact within our studio.
You will work on a range of projects – including workplace, cultural and residential – across work stages, helping to generate and refine design concepts while supporting project architects and directors to manage work packages in line with project briefs and deadlines.
We’re looking for someone with:
- passion for architecture & creative arts and able to relate diverse precedents and design ideas to architectural projects
- excellent people skills and a collaborative and flexible outlook
- the ability to communicate design ideas in an engaging, sophisticated way
- experience of working in practice successfully across RIBA stages with good knowledge of current UK regulatory environment
- the ability to communicate design across a range of software. This must include strong working knowledge of Revit and the ability to think and model in 3D with excellent visual and model making skills and attention to detail
