Outline of the role
We’re looking for a talented (artist) designer maker to join our workshop team at Based Upon in Southeast London. As part of our growing craft function, you’ll work across a range of materials, processes, and disciplines in a highly creative, hands-on environment.
You’ll contribute at every stage, bringing strong attention to detail, problem solving ability, and a solid foundation in making and design. A proactive, collaborative approach and willingness to learn and evolve with the team are essential.
Essential interests, experience and skills
We’re looking for someone with practical making experience and confidence in several of the following areas:
- spraying metals, paints, and lacquers, including surface prep and fine finishing
- pouring, casting, and finishing resins, with knowledge of colour mixing and mould work
- metal finishing and polishing, from preparation to high-gloss and patinated finishes
- working with mixed materials such as wood, composites, plaster, or stone
- hand-finishing skills including sanding, shaping, blending, and detailing
- ability to interpret drawings, models, or prototypes to guide fabrication
- strong craftsmanship, accuracy, and a patient, methodical approach
- a collaborative mindset and openness to learning new processes
