Applied Information Group is hiring a junior designer to join its team in London.
Sometimes people get lost in buildings. You think about how they shouldn’t. If wayfinding, navigation, and visual storytelling are your craft, this might be your next move.
We’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic junior graphic designer to join our growing creative team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the start of their design career who is eager to develop their skills and make a real impact.
About us
Working at Applied means working on all aspects of the design process. From user research, through strategy and concept, to detailed design and implementation. We are looking for designers who are highly motivated and passionate, with a keen graphic eye and ambition to deliver projects of the highest quality.
We’re looking for conceptual thinkers with a strong graphic/typographic focus, who have the discipline and ambition to turn their concepts into refined design solutions as part of the information systems we deliver.
You don’t need prior wayfinding experience. We’re looking for exceptional graphic designers who are fluent in screen design and eager to experiment – applying their skills to navigation across digital interfaces, the built environment, and new visual formats.
You will be joining our established office in Angel, London. The role will be predominantly studio based though we do offer some flexibility for home working. Although you’d be based in London, your projects will be anywhere in the world. We are currently working with clients in seven time zones, in cities, districts, transport networks, airports, campuses, complexes, open spaces and buildings, for some of the biggest and smallest companies in the world. All are complex, and all are looking for us to help them.
What we are looking for:
- one to two years’ experience within the design industry and must demonstrate a solid understanding of user-centered design principles, and an ability to ideate, visualise and iterate strong design concepts
- a portfolio that demonstrates graphic and typographic skills, and your dedication to the craft of your final designs. At Applied we like design thinkers who champion the meaningful as much as the beautiful
- the ability to talk and write articulately about your decision making and the developmental work behind your designs. As well as being highly collaborative, you will be proactive in approach, and efficient at working on your own initiative
- proficiency in and be up-to-date with the latest software required for the role. The company predominantly uses Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace (Slides, Docs, Sheets) and Slack
- prior experience in any of the following: UX/UI design, branding, industrial/product design, exhibition design, editorial design or BIM, 3D modelling/rendering, are highly appreciated
- a passion for learning and exploring new ideas, with curiosity for emerging technologies and AI-assisted creative tools that support innovative design thinking
- a strong understanding of human-centred design and user experience principles, with the ability to consider user needs, behaviours and accessibility when developing thoughtful and effective design solutions
- fluency in languages in addition to English is an advantage but not essential.
