Pirajean Lees is looking for a full-time creative interior designer to join its team in London.
This position is for a qualified, talented and confident designer with strong experience in high-end restaurant, bar and residential projects within established UK practices. We are looking for someone with a genuine command of technical design and drawing-package delivery, who shares our interest in materials, textures and details and who approaches each project with a fresh perspective.
You will join our creative team to work primarily on high-end restaurants and bars internationally and, secondly, on private residential projects.
This is a delivery-focused role at the heart of the studio, with a strong emphasis on developing and producing detailed interior design drawing packages – particularly at RIBA Stage 3 (spatial coordination) and Stage 4 (technical design). We work at pace across multiple live projects, so the successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced studio environment and manage competing deadlines with confidence. You will be an integral part of the team with the opportunity to work on a range of exciting projects.
Responsibilities – interior design:
- developing the design and presentations through all project stages, in collaboration with the project team, including the studio’s FF&E designers and co-founders
- producing and developing detailed interior design drawing packages through all stages, with a particular focus on RIBA Stage 3 (spatial coordination) and Stage 4 (technical design): general arrangement plans, RCPs, elevations, sections and detailed architectural and joinery details
- translating concept design into coordinated, technically resolved information ready for tender and construction
- coordinating drawing information with architects, structural and MEP engineers and other consultants to deliver a fully integrated package
- ensuring drawings comply with UK Building Regulations and align with the UK design stages (RIBA Plan of Work)
- participating in the narrative conceptualisation – creating mood boards using InDesign and sharing creative ideas to shape and develop project narratives
- conceptual design research, image sourcing, hand sketching and 3D modelling
- researching and sourcing materials and finishes, ironmongery and sanitaryware
- preparing schedules in Excel for materials and finishes, ironmongery, sanitaryware and joinery
- maintaining drawing registers and keeping track of all interior design documentation
- attending relevant team meetings and project site meetings
- maintaining and growing relationships with consultants, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers
Responsibilities – FF&E:
- supporting the FF&E team with the integration of FF&E within the interior scheme through CAD layouts and coded plans
- assisting with research and sourcing of references, materials, finishes, fabrics and antiques for projects and our material library
- contributing to the design and development of bespoke pieces
- helping to prepare FF&E schedules and specification sheets in Excel
- assisting with client presentations and reviewing samples, shop drawings and prototypes where required
Key requirements
The candidate must have:
- a minimum of three years’ relevant experience, with a demonstrable understanding of luxury/high-end hospitality and/or private residential projects
- strong, demonstrable experience producing detailed interior design drawing packages, particularly at RIBA Stage 3 and Stage 4
- confident technical knowledge of interior design detailing, specifications and construction, with the ability to resolve and coordinate complex information
- confident creative and practical knowledge of interior design, supported by a working understanding of FF&E
- knowledge of UK Building Regulations and UK design stages on a project (RIBA Plan of Work)
- confident knowledge of materials and finishes, their fabrication techniques and operational applications
- strong conceptualisation skills with confident knowledge of detailing, specifications and furniture design
- competence in preparing CAD drawing packages
- confident communication and presentation skills – able to present ideas to the co-founders and design team and to liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, purchasing agents and contractors
- strong organisational skills, attention to detail and precision
- the ability to thrive in a fast-paced studio, managing multiple live projects to tight deadlines
- efficient project, work and time-management skills
- on-site experience preferable
- a professional, proactive and dedicated approach
- the ability to work within a team and independently
- the candidate must be fluent in (essential): professional English, hand sketching, 2D (AutoCAD), 3D (3ds Max, SketchUp, SolidWorks or equivalent), Photoshop and InDesign, Word and Excel
