Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as Fall 2026 Visiting Artist of Expanded Practice and/or Visual Arts Studio Manager, with potential to extend contract. Teach one section of ART113 - Art and Expanded Practice during the Fall Semester (September 8 - December 14, plus Final Exam Period) and manage an active Visual Arts studio/classroom and Open Studio Sessions.
Both the Art and Expanded Practice course and the Open Studio Sessions allow students to explore and expand their existing art practice through self-directed studio work time, dialogue and feedback, and opportunities to explore a range of focused, interdisciplinary studio exercises. The Visiting Artist and Studio Manager position requires a dedicated individual with an in-depth knowledge of interdisciplinary artistic practice, a collaborative and nurturing work approach, and a strong emphasis on sustainable studio practices and material maintenance. The Visual Art Department is at a moment of exciting visioning and this is a position that has the potential to grow into and with the department.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Instructor Responsibilities:
- Guide students in developing a strong studio work ethic and to work independently.
- Foster meaningful classroom dialogue, leading by example: encouraging insightful, personal growth-oriented feedback/critique and the use of key art terms.
- Select and develop appropriate materials for each project's requirements.
- Track and assess student progress.
- Maintain appropriate attendance and learner records.
- Post course syllabus on Moodle, the College's Learning Management System.
Studio Manager Responsibilities:
- Maintain two 3-hour open studio sessions per week for students to have free time to work on their art projects and access supplies as needed.
- Track supply closet needs, organize and maintain all studio supplies.
- Mentor students on proper care of materials and studio maintenance skills.
- Assess and maintain functionality of tools, supplies, equipment, and furniture in studios.
- Maintain, uphold, and model good studio habits such as cleanliness, order, responsibility, care for materials, and sustainability.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master's degree in Visual or Fine Arts or a related field.
- A professional and rigorous visual arts studio practice and portfolio.
- Extensive knowledge of Visual Art and Design media and materials.
- Experience organizing and maintaining an active art studio environment and enforcing safety protocols
- Experience working successfully with a diverse student body.
- A collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to working with students and colleagues.
- Demonstrated pedagogical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Equity and inclusion-minded with experience fostering a learning environment that celebrates the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and racial and ethnic backgrounds present within our college community.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A studio and/or teaching practice focusing on expanded practice, emerging fields, and/or interdisciplinary work.
- Experience using Moodle or other Learning Management Systems.
- Experience with sustainable art materials and/or ecological focus.
- Ability to teach additional art courses, such as Drawing I or Art Appreciation.

COMPENSATION :
Anticipated starting salary for course instruction - Step I DCE Pay Scale (presently $4,536 for 3-credit course).
Hourly rate of $36.55 (Interval 1) for Studio Manager responsibilities.
Part-time, Non- benefited, MCCC Unit position.
