ByOthers is seeking an architectural assistant to join its team in London.
Join a small, design-led studio in Peckham working across the arts, community projects, small sites and country estates – with real responsibility from day one.
ByOthers is seeking a talented Part 2 architectural assistant with two to four years’ experience to join its team in London.
We are a design-led practice working across the arts, community projects, small sites and country estates. Our work ranges from creative collaborations and cultural spaces to inventive housing, one-off dwellings and listed buildings. We’re particularly interested in retrofit and sustainability-led design, and in projects that require careful thinking, resourcefulness and a strong design voice.
We’re a small, collaborative studio. No egos, no passengers. Everyone contributes, everyone learns, and everyone helps shape both projects and the direction of the practice.
About the role
You’ll be involved across all stages of projects, from early feasibility and concept design through to planning and delivery. This is not a production role – you’ll be expected to think, test ideas and take responsibility.
Current work includes:
- arts and cultural projects
- community-led schemes
- small site housing and infill developments
- projects within country estates and sensitive rural settings
- retrofit and sustainability-focused schemes
About you
We’re looking for someone curious, proactive and genuinely interested in architecture beyond the surface.
You should be:
- a confident and thoughtful designer
- self-motivated and able to take initiative
- comfortable working across multiple projects
- interested in sustainability, reuse and low-impact design
- interested in the arts and creative collaboration
- keen to be part of a growing practice, not just employed by one
You’ll be involved in client meetings, design discussions and project decision-making from the outset.
Key skills:
- strong design ability from concept through to developed proposals
- ability to test ideas through sketching, modelling and iteration
- clear communication and presentation skills
- confidence working independently and within a team
- strong organisational skills and ability to manage deadlines
Required experience:
- Part 2 qualification (UK or equivalent)
- experience in a UK-based practice
- strong proficiency in Rhinoceros 3D and AutoCAD (essential)
- experience with Adobe Suite
- understanding of UK planning processes
- excellent spoken and written English
What we offer:
- flexible working hours
- work from home Fridays
- relaxed, friendly studio in Peckham
- collaborative working environment
- real responsibility and project ownership
- competitive salary (dependent on experience)
Application
Please submit a CV and portfolio.
We will begin interviewing from 27 April and are looking to appoint quickly. We’re keen to move fast, but not at the expense of finding the right person.
We’re more interested in how you think than what you’ve worked on – show us your process as well as your outcomes.
