The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Theatre Arts (Performance and Technical), BA in Dance, BA in Comprehensive Art, BA in Graphic Design and service courses in Oral Communication and Humanities, is seeking to fill a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate must be committed to teaching undergraduate courses in Oral Communications, Public Humanities, and other discipline-related topics. The successful candidate will contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department, the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and the University through a productive research agenda that includes grantmanship and service activities. Successful candidates will advise majors and hold office hours. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have a master’s degree or at least 18 credit hours of Communications, Public Humanities, or a related field from an accredited university. A Ph.D. is strongly preferred. Experience in and evidence of successful teaching in a university setting are required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in research and grantsmanship. Although there is an expectation of hiring at the Assistant Professor Rank, we will consider filling the position at a higher rank if the applicant’s qualifications warrant it. Rank and compensation are commensurate with credentials and experience.
