Todd Longstaffe-Gowan Landscape Design is hiring a landscape architect to join its team in London.
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic junior designer (one year plus) to join us on a permanent basis in our busy and creative studio in Farringdon starting in January 2025. We work in diverse places and at all scales – from the design of a new museum garden in New York to the refurbishment and new design of extensive gardens for a large new country hotel to the installation of exquisite town gardens in London and country estates across the world. Our studio is a relaxed environment where we spend our time conjuring designs that stray from the typical, challenge the norm and introduce elements of eccentricity and flair wherever possible.
About the role
- you must demonstrate a working knowledge of the design process and project brief, supporting the preparation of project deliverables from concept stage through to completion
- assist in developing high quality concept designs and detailed packages for projects of all scales
- manage third parties and other consultants according to the needs of the project
- act as a team player, supporting our small team in whatever way is needed – no one day is the same!
- respond to clients and consultants when needed
- provide support to senior team members with client presentations and meetings
- have an understanding of project budgets and a willingness to develop their knowledge of project finances
- have a good understanding of the UK planning law
About you:
- passionate about design
- enjoy collaborating with many different skilled professionals, from architects to fabricators, plant nurseries to engineers
- a degree in a relevant field or equivalent certification or skill level
- experience working within a design studio is preferable, but exceptional graduates will be considered
- you love getting your pencils out and sketching ideas
- a good understanding of technology, we work with the usual software (AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, MS Word, Excel, SketchUp Rhino and Revit)
- excellent written and verbal communication skills – a high level of attention to detail
- someone who is confident talking to all, from clients to labourers
- eligibility to work within the UK
Desirable:
- experience working with listed buildings and within heritage settings
- a good understanding of plant specification and a comprehensive plant knowledge
- experience of 3D modelling and BIM management – Revit and Rhino would be desirable
